up again and taking a break from the real world to handicap a very non-descript thursday in the middle of the meet. with the pacific classic this weekend, the preceding weekday cards are never much to look at. here goes:
r1: let's play find the speed. this is a very paceless bunch, with only beyond infinity showing any penchant to make the pace early. when this is the case only two things can happen- one jockey will send his horse and that horse will roll gate to wire uncontested OR they will run like a pack around the track within 3 lengths of each other and just sprint for home. i vote for the latter and therefore will back outta here, who has a nice turn of foot when he's on his game and despite currin's poor stats, he can train a horse to run. he's dropping out of graded races, but wins rarely enough that we may see 2/1 on him; if so, pull the trigger, otherwise pass and move on.
r3: daunting. who who who is going to run with daunting. the blinks come off truly a judge, so that will probably show less speed tomorrow and he's not as fast as daunting anyway. this mean daunting will be winging by himself on the front and that is a very dangerous proposition for everyone else. labamta babe looked like an up and comer last year when defeating the ill-fated siphonic, but has shown not muc of a pulse since. i'll try to beat him and frankel and focus on daunting with a sizable exacta to truly a judge, reversing it for a smaller amount as well in case daunting falters and 'judge inherits the lead in deep stretch.
r5: fun habit. i told myself i wouldn't bet the outside slot in maiden or baby race at 5 or 5.5f at del mar as often these horses break outwards and can't recover until it's too late. alas, fun habit looks like he'll offer some value so i'll take a bite. alvarado can ride, despite the poor meet and mel gives this guy lasix for his first start in high-priced claimerville. habit has speed so the outside draw may be an advantage if frankie gets him out of the gate in good order. with a bunch of droppers, he should be a price and i'll take a swing.
r6: firstship. newsflash- paul aguirre can train. i'm trying to play against both p town john and liely favorite anthony eats, who could easily win, but won't be a big enough price to play. firstship brooke his maiden like a rocket last month at hollywood and aguirre was probably relieved he wasn't claimed. now he's entered where he can't be lost and while the rail is no great shakes, if he breaks alertly, he should make the lead and that is a highly profitable scenario.
good luck- more to come this weekend.
